Select Program 2008:

ABOUT SELECT

The regional baseball organization (SOBA) has placed a renewed emphasis on Select or ‘A’ level playing opportunities. The intent is to encourage players and teams with more consistent and similar competitive skills to be grouped together. This will enhance the enjoyment and positive values that we wish to emphasize for players at all age and skill levels.

The West Hill Baseball League supports this initiative. The skill development for players who wish to maintain the camaraderie of house league but also enhance their skills, knowledge and competitive experiences should be encouraged and fulfilled through the Select or ‘A’ level programs.

2007 was another stellar year for our Select teams. There were Select teams from Rookie Ball (8 & 9 yr. olds) through midget (16 – 18 yr. olds). All of 5 of our teams participated in the Select Ontario Baseball Association (SOBA) Provincial Championships. The Mosquito and Peewee Select teams won their Championship Loop Tournament. The Midget team had a successful year and was a finalist in the SOBA championship. West Hill has a proud and great tradition in Select and one that we will continue to build on. Of course, any success achieved is through the ongoing support of coaches, parents, players and sponsors. Thank you to all who participated. 

Our Select teams participate in several tournaments and regular loop games through the baseball season. Select requires earlier and more extensive organization by the league and coaches. It also requires earlier practices (starting in late January/early February) and a strong commitment to the team and season by the players. The interest and support of parents is also critical to the success of the program.

Eligible players:

Players must be registered and play on a West Hill House league team.

Players must commit for both Select practices and tournaments.

Cost:

There will be an extra cost of $125 (estimated) to cover uniforms and tournament fees.

Tournament Dates:

Anticipate June through August tournament activity (specific dates to be confirmed).

Tryouts:

West Hill Hosted Select Tournaments:

West Hill will be hosting Bantam, Peewee, Mosquito, and Rookie Ball tournaments in 2008.
